Re: Ur-Quan Masters HD: Slylandro Probe

Not very fond of this one. The original always made me think that they were being lit by some offscreen laser which was refracted by the crystals, or that they had internal lighting. A bit like this: http://www.thinkgeek.com/images/products/additional/large/blue-laser-crystal.jpg (http://www.thinkge...

Re: Ok I'm back with a more fleshed out proposal - coder nee

Okay, your art is nice, and you seem to have a few nice rough ideas... Still, though, have you concidered joining Project 6014? Large story-driven games can be a huge undertaking that need large teams, and Project 6014 currently has a fairly large team. Right now, there should be enough artistic fre...

Re: Project6014 demo release

Well, if you like that kind of stuff, I guess you'll be rather pleasantly surprised some day in the future.. :)

Also, if you're willing to help out with the story and you have a degree in Sci-fi literature, I'm sure you could contact Cedric or someone else and get involved.

Re: Iphone or Blackberry?

The Blackberry platform seems to be dying extremely rapidly; Research In Motion do not appear to have much of a clue about where they want to take their platform, and their developer support is supposedly rather horrible. The only people who appear to still be buying Blackberries are large companies...

Re: Looking for any coder in love with SCII!

I'm not only warning you of the possible challenges you'll be seeing. I'm also warning people who might be interested in your offer, just so that they know what they're getting into before committing to it. Don't you think that, IF your project was going to fail, it would be rather sucky to those wh...

Re: Looking for any coder in love with SCII!

No risk? There's always risk involved. Risk in assigning time for something that may never see the light of day; time which could be spent on other projects. Nothing is ever without risk. Check out what happened with Blood Frontier / Red Eclipse .. Thing is, as soon as money starts being involved wi...

Re: Looking for any coder in love with SCII!

Finally, this is a project I'm looking to do with another person IN OUR SPARE TIME. I have a Marketing day-job, and therefore will not be focusing solely on the game. But it's better if YOU have a day-job too, because we will be splitting the proceeds - NOT handing out checks until people buy the g...

Re: Gathering players for the second Mafia game

I've been playing some Mafia on IRC & elsewhere, and for every game I have disliked the actual game mechanics. Ultimately, the game is nothing else than a game of luck as there is no way to get ANY absolute facts if you aren't a special character. This means that you can as well assume that everyth...

Re: Paul Reiche and Fred Ford's Science Fiction Reading List

You're right about the antagonists of Footfall to be not all that intelligent, but I don't think the point of Footfall (or much of Niven's actual novels in general) was to have intelligent, interesting antagonists. The point of Footfall was to be entertaining, which it did extremely well. Far more t...

Skip the sequel.
I'd actually recommend Footfall (also with Pournelle) or Ringworld over Mote. Mote just didn't feel as epic...
