Certainly not the first computer game I've played but a good one none-of-the-less.
Freddy Pharkis: Frontier pharmacist {?} This video also shows the ballad at the start, which is a bonus ;)-smf , The ballad of the nube is the only thing better.

Oooh I remember that one!
One of the better Sierra titles.

My first computer game was a Commodore VIC-20 cartridge game called Sir Lancelot. It was basically a cheapo knockoff of Joust, but I didn't know that at the time and thought it was great.

The first game I played for the PC was actually Rogue, believe it or not. I was very young at the time, and playing on a friend's PC Jr., so suffice to say I didn't do terribly well.

For very long time I have thought of giving the mother of all RPG's a try, but never actually got to doing it...

I believe he was referring to Rogue, actually. I didn't try Eye of the Beholder until many years after it was relevant. Upon playing, I found it to be quite dull, to be honest, and I usually give older games a fair bit of leeway in that department.

Yes, I WAS referring to Rogue.
I have finished EoB 1, played 2 but didn't finish it. I think there is also 3...

Freeware wise: I also recommend Dungeons and Dragons Online, it has a pretty entertaining quasi-real time feel to it.
If you enjoyed the notorious DotA way back when, you will probably take pleasure in League of Legends. Bizarre art style and a mostly snobbish community aside, it is a good arena real time strategy game.
I suggest messing around with Gens, a Sega Genesis emulator (it is under the GNU General Public License and freeware from my understanding). It was actually what got me hooked on Star Control in the first place!

Payware wise: Team Fortress 2 remains my favorite team based shooter.
Supreme Commander 1 (maybe not 2) also has my vote.
As another repeat, the Mass Effect series is really great.

The first computer game I played was Doom, believe it or not. Probably not the best choice for a child’s mental health, but at least I was able to teach the walls a lesson in humility during my first play through.

Additionally, in the name of my wicked persona, I express incredulous feelings for the new Deus Ex. Where is the old crew?!

Hey guys, maybe you can suggest something specific to me, as I am tired of searching a game I'd like and getting somewhat bored playing my usuals.
I would like some single player thing. I play (in descending order of instances) UQM and AI mellee, HoMM3, Worms World Party (PDA version), LBA1, Vagrant Story.
Is there anything like those games around?
