So, after 2 years of Star Control art, I've been feeling a little burned out. With the release of Star Citizen's hangar module coming out for early backers, I thought about what classic Wing Commander 1 & 2 ships would look like with Star Citizen's artists and with the tech the CryEngine 3 affords them. Since I'm kinda on hold until our esteemed programmer gets back...I got a free weekend, and kit-bashed some art together. I thought some here might enjoy these:

These look great! Especially fond of the Dralthi, probably the most iconic ship from the series.

Drool! seriously those are fantastic looking. God I miss Wing Commander, I really should finish playing WC4, considering the original box pc version is sitting but 5 feet from my desk.

Star Citizen should be pretty awesome, I'm excited for that one.

These ships look awesome!
Do you know about a game FTL:Faster than light?
It has very big modding community, these ships could fit nicely into them.

Wow these are superb! They also make me realize just how old I am getting. :shock:

My favorite terran fighter ship was the Rapier and the bomber one with the turrets (which I can't recall the name of at the moment); "Long Bow" perhaps?

I've seen videos of Chris Robert's new project Star Citizen and it looks pretty impressive. I can't wait to see how that game turns out.

Longbow Bomber from Wing Commander 3. That's a good one :D-smf although the Nephilim devil ray from Prophecy is definitely my favorite. Not sure how fans feel about Prophecy though.

I'm surprised nobodies really talked about the Wing Commander movie. I was pretty young when I first watched it, so anything Wing Commander got my hyped back then, but looking back, I'm pretty pissed Chris wandered into the cast of Scooby-Doo and decided they should play leads. Come on man.

I found out last week that THERE IS A FUCKING WING COMMANDER GAME IN HD!!!

In short, it's incredible.

Long story: It's a completely fan-made game based on the freespace 2 engine, with a completely new story which all in all gives you the original wing commander feeling. It doesn't have the live action cutscenes that wing commander 3 had but the briefings are animated with 3d modeled characters. The controls are smooth and the gameplay is interesting enough, but where this re-imagining really shines is the story. The voice acting is also really well done :).
