Granted it got pulled from the app store very quickly, but this app was essentially DosBox.
I managed to get it to do this:

Huh, interesting. Pity it got yanked, though I can see why.

Running software you can control on your own hardware is a bad thing now?

Oh wait, this is the iPhone. Nevermind.

If I ever buy an iPhone myself, it will only be when I have tons of money to throw around AND can jailbreak it so I can run whatever I want, because to hell with hardware manufacturers telling me what I can do with the software. Which is exactly the same reasons I waited so long to get a DS. :)

Er, yeah.
So, outside of this terrible example, do you guys think handheld Star Control is a good idea?
Does it need physically findable buttons to work?

Thereare already several handheld versions of UQM, I've never tried any but people seem pretty happy with them.

i think Star Control II ported to iphone / android is going to be hard work to play-- am busy designing the interface for Dark quadrant, and I've found the turn left/turn right button thing really doesn't work on a tiny screen. Fun for those of us who care, but ultimately better to just get Project 6014 onto your desktop. Might be marginally more doable on ipad, but then Apple have just pulled iDos before I could get it, so no go there :-/

There is a brandnew game for iphone and ipad out. The name is "Galaxy on Fire2".
Cute graphics, planets, systems and ships nicely done, gameplay somewhat boring, because there is no good story thread.
But nevertheless, these guys should study SC2 etc. to get a glimpse of an idea about storylines ^^

I've played The Urquan Masters port on Android. I find the controls the most annoying. A big gripe of mine is cellphones are never designed with gamers in mind so the games that work with them are rather limited. My Samsung Galaxy S even has a slide out keyboard and it's still a pain to control. You can set the game to have the computer play Melee for you, but planet lander missions suck.
