My Orchestral Star Control 2 PC Intro Remix

Last night I was wondering about what the intro credits would look like if there was ever to be a Star Control movie.. I imagine big spaceships flying by, doing battle, and epic orchestral music.
Then I started wondering what the Star Control 2 PC intro music would sound like if it were to be played by an orchestra.

So I started experimenting a bit, and this is the result:

The orchestral remix

Hope you like it :). It's far from perfect, but given the short amount of time I spent on it (around 1 day) I have to say I'm quite satisfied with the result thusfar ;). Feel free to use it or upload it anywhere you like, aslong as you keep the credits intact.

In case anyone wants to modify it, here is the 'source' song file, to be used with Reason 4:

(it uses the standard instruments that come with Reason 4 so no need to download extras)

Enjoy!

I'm not really sure what to make of it. I can't say I liked the intro terribly much, and felt that the crescendos in the middle were a bit too far removed from the original piece. However, the horns were spot on, along with the backing strings.

I'll lean toward undecided, I guess. ;)

Thanks for your criticism!
I know the intro could use some work. Before I added in the bells and violins at the start I felt bored with it myself, although the original intro is exactly as long.. But adding those sounds 'distracted' a bit from the longetivity of the intro, it didn't neccesarily make those 30 seconds worth listening to ;).
Once I get some inspiration, I'll see what I can do about it. Ideas are ofcourse welcome :).

The opening drums went on a little too long, I think.

In general... I guess I see this more as the intro to a movie set in ye olden times rather than the future. In particular, the wood block was an odd choice.

Yeah, I know.. though if you look back to the old intro mod they last just as long ;).. I need something better to fill the gaps, to make the intro more entertaining.

I think the main problem with the opening drums is that they lack the opening credit roll to go with them. Without the visuals to go with them, they seem to go on a lot longer. You could potentially cut them back, or out entirely, without really affecting the rest of the song, though. Since there are no visuals to go along with them, they seem a bit superfluous.

Its pretty cool, one of the challenges is trying to make the piece seem more futuristic. That's probably because everyone's used to synthesizers though. really liked the double bass part. For the drums, you might have to cut out a couple seconds.

I agree, since the "Solar wind" kind of sound went along with the picture of space and the epic starting text, and ending the rather quiet intro at the time it gets to the research colony, the music is definitely supposed to go with the visuals in the intro movie. You don't have to take out the intro entirely, just shorten it a bit.
